Oregon has so much to choose from and it can be difficult to narrow down where you should spend your time. As you create the perfect Oregon Itinerary, you may consider whether or not you want to spend that time along the coast or focus on the National Parks throughout the state. Oregon’s Coast stretches for over 360 miles, located between California and Washington state. Highway 101, otherwise known as the Oregon Coast Highway, takes you along miles of shoreline and trailheads. You zig zag among beach towns, to find yourself among the redwoods. You’ll truly be amazed at the diverse landscape you’ll find yourself driving among. You’ll want plenty of time to pull over and enjoy the scenery. Unless you have more than 7 days along this beautiful Oregon coast, you’ll want to divide your time to give enough space to enjoy the towns, take a hike or have a beach day.
The Oregon coast is the perfect road trip to enjoy the van life. You’ll find many RV resorts along the drive. Ensure you book the RV resort of your choice well before your trip as this is a popular destination. Otherwise, enjoy a little boondocking!

Astoria
Astoria is the southernmost Coastal city on the Oregon Coast, closest to Washington state. It happens to be the oldest city in Oregon, named after an American Fur Company founded at Fort Astoria in the nineteenth century. It’s also where the home was located in the movie ‘The Goonies’. Where are my 80’s babies at?!
- Explore the Astoria Riverwalk, taking a look at the hundreds of ship that may be in port
- Walk under the 4 mile Astoria-Megler Bridge, taking pictures along the way of the view it provides of the Columbia River
- Check out the sea lions lounging on the docks near the Columbia River Maritime Museum on 36th street
- Take a peek at the infamous home featured in the movie ‘The Goonies’, located at 368 38th Street

Cannon Beach
Cannon Beach is a small coastal city featuring the massive sea stack known as Haystack Rock. You can even find puffins inhabiting Cannon Beach, around the Spring. Cannon Beach is one of the places along this itinerary that you do not want to miss. It’s home to sea caves, lighthouses, hiking and so much more.
- Walk along Cannon Beach to see Haystack Rock and possibly tufted puffins
- Visit Ecola State Park, where you can walk along the beaches, catch a glimpse of Roosevelt elk in the rainforest or hike a few of the trails.
- See the tidepools and sea caves
- Eat at one of the many restaurants and enjoy some of the best seafood!
Tip: If you enjoy cheese and other dairy products, don’t miss Tillamook! On your way from Cannon Beach to Pacific City, stop over at Tillamook Creamery.

Pacific City
The main thing that attracted me to Pacific City was Cape Kiwanda. However, as we arrived, we knew we’d be occupying this area much longer than just a few hours. There isn’t much activity, especially during the late Summer months but you can find those that love the area still around to enjoy the town.
- Park along the beach parking lot, near Pelican Brewing Company and enjoy the view
- Walk the massive sand dunes in Cape Kiwanda
- Have a bonfire on the beach at sunset
Tip: Enjoying any of the views along the Oregon coastline is made easy when renting a campervan! Our Kuga Campervan from Travellers Autobarn had everything we needed to enjoy a bonfire on the beach, complete with a charcuterie board, Oregon wine and dinner.

Bandon
Located south of Coos Bay, and named after the hometown of its first settler from Ireland. Bandon is known for its beaches and rock formations, known as sea stacks. In 1936, most of this small town was destroyed in a fire causing it to be rebuilt from the ground up.
- Visit The Coquille River Lighthouse at Bullards Beach State Park
- Play golf at one of the four golf courses
- Sample local beer or cider
- See the Circles in the Sand, created up to 50 times a year
- Eat Fish and Chips at the Chowder House
- Take a walk along the beach near Face Rock

Brookings
Brookings is the coastal town of Oregon, closest to California. It has some of the warmest temperatures on the coastline and is extremely close to the redwoods. It’s also considered the home to the beautiful Samuel H. Boardman Corridor. My recommendations for Brookings entails spending time along the corridor. Leave at least 2 days for this area as there is so much to see.
- Hike to the Natural Bridges at sunset
- Visit Secret Beach
- Enjoy a picnic at the Arch rock overview
- Stroll Whaleshead Beach
